Rail Sweep

I'm trying to cap the end of my object. I tried rail sweep but the sweep goes through 360 degrees rather than 180 degrees. How do I get it to just cap the end of my object without going 360?

Image above shows that it has swept 360 degrees.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi gunter, is it possible for you to post an attachment with your 3DM model file in it rather than only screenshots? It's a lot easier to examine a model file to see what you might be running into.

Are you doing a one-rail sweep or a two rail sweep?

For something like that you'd want to do a 2 rail sweep, with the profile curve for the sweep like this:

And then 2 rails going up something similar to this (shown separated here for illustration):

If your vertical curve is currently just one single curve, you can use Edit > Trim to cut it into 2 pieces so it will be configured for 2 rails like I show above. Select it and run Edit > Trim and then click the "Add trim points" button and add a trim point at the spot to cut it.

Another possibility for a cap like that is to use rail revolve, for that you have a profile and bottom rail like this:

You select the profile there, run Construct > Revolve > Rail revolve, select the rail path and then pick the revolve axis which you want to pick dropping down from the tip of the profile curve. That will then make a cap by pivoting the profile around the axis and stretching it to follow the rail path as it pivots.

Also in some cases the new Construct > Nsided command can be used for putting on a rounded cap as well.

In this case it's better to post the file 3dm ;)

Maybe Rail Revolve works ?
or the new Nsided ?
or Blend
or...

Ps Cross post :)

hi there!

you could try to use the Rail revolve tool..

there could be some continuity issues regarding the transition from the main part though..upps, just saw Michaels reply..

so that would be the "other" Rail revolve solution with a bit of trimming involved..
