copy and paste

When I'm constructing safety railings and stairways for machine systems, I'm always clicking copy and paste to duplicate various elements as I move around the machine.

Is there a shortcut for a "one-click" copy and paste... like a duplicate key?

Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V ? (On PC)

Or Menu Transform / Copy and you obtain the Past as each mouse's click ?

"Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V ?"

Well, call me lazy, but I was kind of looking for something like Ctrl+D for a "one-click" duplication of highlighted item.

Thanks,
Chuck

Holding Ctrl and dragging (moving) the object will duplicate it.

"Holding Ctrl and dragging (moving) the object will duplicate it."

That's a neat trick. Works for me.

Thanks

Hi,

Here's a small script Michael wrote a while ago:

script: /* Duplicate selected objects */ var gd = moi.geometryDatabase; var objs = gd.getSelectedObjects(); if ( objs.length != 0 ) gd.copyToClipboard( objs ); moi.command.execCommand( 'paste' );

I use it a lot, set on shift+D shortkey.

Marc

I've noticed that the Ctrl-drag method of duplicating an object does not select the new object. You have to click off the parent and then select the new object. So, I guess that hitting copy and then paste is still the fastest way to execute a simple duplication. (two clicks to a selected object that's ready to move)
