Choppy navigation

Hey guys, so I am currently using v1.1 but have installed the trial versions of v2 and the same problem happens.

the best way to describe it is when I am navigating around my model in any view mode (split, 3d, left, right you get the idea)
the software is sluggish and is constantly jogging to catch up.
its a major drag on working my workflow.

I have several other 3d apps that are running smooth and no issues.
I am using winxp pro, latest service pak and wireless logitech mouse. ( tried using a wired mouse and same problem).

thanks
Mike Fitz

Hi Mike,

re: Choppy view navigation -

Is it possible that you've cranked up the display mesh density a whole bunch? Try going to Options > View > Meshing parameters and make sure "Mesh angle" is set to the default 10 degrees and not some smaller angle than that.

Hey Michael, sorry I forgot to mention that I had tried that after you suggested it to me in a previous thread.
everything is default settings and the mesh angle was never changed.

but I just noticed that if I restart my computer and quickly open Moi as soon as the start up process allows me the
software is running smoothly for a few moments and then begins to go choppy again.

I seem to remember you saying that moi uses the operating system for its graphics and not the video card.
if so could this be a operating system issue Im having?

I really don't want to run a reinstall of the os...

Hi Mike, MoI does use the video card for it's display, you might try updating your video drivers to the most current one and see if that has any effect.

Also maybe some kind of anti-virus or anti-malware type system that you're running is having some negative performance effect. If you're running any kind of utility like those that hooks into programs at a low level try disabling it temporarily and see if that helps or not.

Maybe when you run MoI early in the boot up process whatever other software is bogging things down has not gotten up and running at that time, that's kind of what it sounds like to me.

Hey Michael, okay I just turned off my anti virus and the software went back to running smoothly.
I tried several different tests and they all had the same effect on sluggish redraw when antivirus on and fast smooth
redraw when anti virus is off.

I have updated the application and still no improvement.
I use zonelabs security suite. I wonder how to fix this?
any thoughts?
thanks

Hi Mike,

> I use zonelabs security suite. I wonder how to fix this?

Well personally I would just ditch any anti-virus software that had such a continuous negative system performance effect.

But often times software like that will have some settings in it that will stop it from interfering with certain specific programs, so you can kind of turn it off in a more fine tuned way rather than just all on or all off. Look for some settings like that and add MoI.exe to any list of programs to not interfere with.

Hi Mike,

Also add 'moi_commandprocessor.exe' to your exeption list, I found that out when Kaspersky was constantly monitoring it and did the same thing you're explaining, once the license was up for renewing I went with Microsoft security essentials no issues ever since :)

Cheers
~Danny~

hey Danny, that didn't help with the problem.
after sometime with tech support at Zone Alarm I isolated the problem down to "terminal Services".
when I turn that service off the problem goes away.
so... now Im just trying to figure out if I can run my machine with out it.
