Hi Andrei, I thought you've done a rifle before here: http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5953.1 - I guess this one is fairly different, is there any specific area of the model that you are having difficulty with?

Hi Michael,
The rifle I made before is much more easier for me because it has only square shapes.
But this one is very tricky this areas are looks still very hard for me to imagine how to make:
Red is the most tricky part for me :)

Hi Andrei, yeah it looks like there will be some pretty tricky transition areas in there.

For your red area, I'd think you would want to have it initially a big unbroken piece with a surface going across the whole area like this:

Then probably make a second surface that will cut the other one like so:

After those are trimmed with one another you'll then try to put a fillet where they intersected.

Looks like on this rifle you may want to have several layers of things that are similar to that, with chunks scalloped out from a bigger surface by having a kind of curved cutting surface that takes some of the larger block's material away, does that make sense?

You mean second surface only for hole? Or for area around it to?

This is not clear for me.

Hi Andrei,

> You mean second surface only for hole? Or for area around it to?

The second surface is for the "side walls" of the hole - it would stick out and intersect the outer surface and you'd trim both surfaces with each other.

Then the area right immediately around the outside of the hole comes from filleting.

Basically cutting a chunk away from a larger block with a curved cutting surface something similar to this:

Andrei:first a big loft to cover whole rifle
than imagine red and blue area like a single part to subtract (seems like a big sharp ellipse)
after subtract you can do handle and trigger also subtracting from previous shape
just a quick idea..
