LOFT SCAN

Hay people.
Want to show you my new LOFT method LOFT SCAN. It is some kind of NURBS retopology.

It allows to recreate objects. And make them more simple, only one surface and one seam. I used it for example to recreate this seat that I downloaded from grabcad.com
I wanted to recreate it because I don't like this amount of edges it has. I wanted to keep my model to have as few amount of edges as possible.

Different objects need a bit different tweaks but this is main workflow:

M-Dynamics,

I also used this method to smooth your joystick)
It was a bit complicated, it takes me about 30 min to understand how to rebuilt it, because of your seams. But when I get it I rebuilt it very fast.

Interesting, could it be possible to rebuild surfaces with a script, or a rebuild surfaces button.

Things can get tricky with this technique if the shape has branches or holes in it, that's what makes a generalized "rebuild by sampled parallel cross sections" mechanism difficult.

Michael Gibson,
Yep, there is a lot of different forms, that need diffrent aproach to rebuild, so making of a one universal script is very hard task I think .

I show one of ways how to handle holes with LOFT SCAN. Also how to treat corner points with LOFT SCAN. And how to smooth CAD models.

Jay:

script: /* Expand selection over same styles and loft */ var objects = moi.geometryDatabase.getObjects().getCurves(), points = moi.geometryDatabase.getObjects().getPoints(), styles = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < points.length; i++) { objects.addObject(points.item(i))} for ( var i = 0; i < objects.length; ++i ) { var obj = objects.item(i); if ( obj.selected ) styles[obj.styleIndex] = true; } for ( var i = 0; i < objects.length; ++i ) { var obj = objects.item(i); if ( styles[obj.styleIndex] ) obj.selected = true; }; moi.command.execCommand( 'loft' );

Hey Andrei,
thank you very much! You are the best!

Great that it is automatically lofting the curves in the right order!
