MOI3D as an archviz tool

Thought I'd get other people's thoughts on whether MOI3D is a suitable
tool for archviz work. I've have a licensed copy of MOI3D and would like
to use it as my main modelling tool for archviz.

Right now I'm using Blender to do most of the work and currently
evaluating sketchup pro, but would prefer to use MOI3D.

Anyone here use MOI3D for this type of modelling?

Cheers.

You can achieve great detail in no time with MoI but if you dont use curves too often you may try other tools. As an example with curves, the image attached was made with MoI and Modo 701. You should look at this blog for a really great workflow: alexhogrefe.com

Hi Marco,

For this building my job is to add paneling and other stuff on top of existing geometry.

I received an autocad file (really ugly with a lot of errors), I exported parts of it in .SAT

Imported the .SAT files in MoI and cleaned them (removed back faces for performance at render time)

Then separated each faces of the building because it was too big to handle even for MoI 3D (even with 4gb of GPU memory...)

I added some stuff (still need to add more) inside MoI 3D (thanks to the awesome copy tool and linear arrays)

Then I export everything in separated OBJ files and import in Cinema 4D

Rendering is done inside Cinema 4D with the Maxwell Render plugin

Panels material is based on real samples (scan then made tileable using pixplant)

Now I need to make every panel a little bit different from the others and simulate shades in the windows and even fake interiors for closeups :)

Little update, please don't share the link outside this forum :)

100% MoI 3D except the blinds (mograph)

Still have a lot of work to do on it...

Hi DesuDeus, Google does index most of the content of the forum here, just so you know.

Your project is looking great!

@Michael yep I know but it's ok it's not top secret stuff, thanks by the way :) It's really cool to work with MoI on this, will do a topic when finished !

@Pilou I made fake walls for the internals so it's not empty and you got shadows on walls coming from the windows opening on different camera angles.
