Does the AI (Illustrator) format not support layers or styles?

If I save a project with multiple styles/layers in AI format it opens with only 1.

The AI format does support layers and colors, but MoI does not output them yet. But support for that is already in place for the next v3 beta though, the next v3 beta will write styles out as layers in the AI file and also write the style colors out.

AHHH YEAH what a good news :)

My question is, will it export planar surfaces (in 2d planes) as color filled shapes in illustrator ?

Also, would it be possible to copy-paste curves from MoI 3D to Illustrator ? That would be overkill for designing icons and stuff :D

Woohoo!

It would be nice indeed if planar surface would make filled objects in AI.

Hi DesuDeus,

No, it won't do this currently.

I've been looking into that a bit, but one complication is that there are some parameters you can set when you generate the AI file and so it would be weird to pop up the AI options dialog every time you did a regular copy, because I can't tell at that time whether you're intending to paste 3D geometry back into MoI or whether you're actually going to be copying over to Illustrator.

So I've thought maybe about making a separate command for copying illustrator data to the clipboard, would that work?

Yes a separate command is fine, so I can assign it to any key combination.

It would be really convenient to be able to copy paste between the two apps, I often have to use .AI data as template or incorporate .AI data like logotypes and shapes into my 3D designs, and it would be faster than importing. It's becoming powerfull :)

Can't wait for this new release ^^

Michael, if you need complicated .AI files (production files) to test features I can send you some :)

Thanks, but that won't be necessary, I've got enough test files here already I think.
