Since we're on the topic of keyshot 4, is the .obj file better than .step? I've been using .step and it seems to work well. Should I use .obj instead?

I prefer the .step files too, you get control over the tessellation and I can export from MoI with no 32bit memory restriction problems :) However small scale models do sometimes import in with missing or damaged surfaces

Hi beanworks,

If .step works ok for you then that's certainly fine.

OBJ format will give you a couple of different things - the meshing will happen in MoI and you'll be able to use MoI's controls for adjusting the mesh, and also OBJ format will preserve more detailed style assignments than STEP transfer, stuff like individual faces of a box that have been assigned different styles should come through with OBJ format, while with STEP format there will only be one color set on the top level object.

Just usually one of the mesh formats like OBJ, LWO, or FBX are used for transfer to rendering programs in general.
