Thanks Burrman, I know Geneva is kinda flat (live there) but there's a lot of streets that have some slope.

The problem is when you look at the cutaway is that there's two main entrances at two different levels (number 1 and number 2)

Also there's some streets at number 3 that are on a different level than streets at number 4

So I can't really make everything "flat" it need some kind of level difference.

I'm calling a guy to get topology in polygons then I guess I'll just adjust it to fit the buildings inside of Cinema 4D.

Thanks for your help :)

I recently did a project with some simple topo needed in a track/road like situation. Although not quite as complex as your roads, it may be worth a look. (Kindof hard to see but the go Kart track is going up and down and banking in the corners and such)

Really if all you need are some subtle changes for a couple areas, especially with roads that can be defined, Maybe just make a grid surface that you can trim the roads out of, then lower and blend them. The grid surface can be raised and lowered in some key areas with point pulling to create some levels.

2 cents.

So apparently they don't have polygonal data for the ground...

Will have to do it by hand in C4D sculpting :D

...there is a Google Earth to C4D plugin available, quite reasonable priced..

http://www.archiplug.com/EN/GETerrain.aspx

Maperative is a free solution based on OpenStreetsMap

http://maperitive.net/

provides 3Dexport to .cae (Collada)

3dm wise..there is a rhinoplug

http://www.rhinoterrain.com/

imports all sorts of things..DEM, Pointclouds, Google Earth..but really a bit of an overkill for just 1 or 2 projects..

I'de be glad to put this up as an obj for you to review. Not sure how close I got the topo map to the terrain data, but it looks close. Converting it to NURBS was not going well, but maybe it will suit the poly need?

Let me know.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the help ! I finished the trainstation model today and now I'm starting to build the stuff around

Is anyone kind enough to convert those to .3DM ? I only need the curves and the buildings, I will open them in rhino and generate the terrain with the patch tool (maybe before I'll clean all the lines)

Then I will manually place the buildings on the ground :D Fun part (could do it with grasshopper)

I found a video tutorial about the patch tool it seems to work great if curves are clean and if you first do an extract points.

Thank you :)

Hi Desudeus, Rhino should be able to load the buildings from the DXF file - when I tried it looked like the buildings were made up of polygon data, which is why they don't come into MoI v3's new DXF reader, MoI's reader seemed to bring in the curves ok though.

But if you're already going to use Rhino for the patch terrain method, you should also be able to use it for importing that DXF file as well too.

I think some confusion might be that the location of the drawing is so far away from 0,0,0. as I opened it in Moi and initially didn't see anything.
I had to look at it in Max first and find out that the location is 208679'6.5", 93074'4.75", 34' 8.5"
