Scale and Adobe Illustrator

Is there a way to sync the actual size of a spline object from Adobe Illustrator to moi3d so there is a direct size relation. i inch in Illustrator is 1" after import in moi. When I import my Illustrator art by default it is larger than a pre-measured object in moi3d. Can one adjust the scale ratios?

If I understand your problem, you're saying that when you import AI files into MoI, the imported size isn't that same as the original Illustrator size. Is this correct or am I misunderstanding?

It's working fine for me with inches. I have Illustrator & MoI set to inches as default units. Also make sure your sizing in illustrator
is based on un-stroked vectors, as stroke weight is used to calculate size in Illustrator.

Hi Mike, make sure you have units set in MoI to inches, cm, or mm before either opening or importing the AI file and that will likely help.

AI files natively contain their coordinates in "points" units, with 1 pt = 1/72 of an inch (it's a unit from typography), if you have units set in MoI to any of inches, cm, or mm it will scale from points into those units but if you don't MoI will instead just scale by 1/20 in size to get a fairly reasonable numeric range rather than having numeric values in the thousands as points units on a printed page usually have.

So anyway if you set your units in MoI to inches before doing any transfer (either writing out or importing in too) that should help you.

Thanks for all of your help. Syncing the units did the trick.

One last related question if I may? Once you have drawn an object can you select it, query its dimensional properties and perform a numeric transformation? Simply put can you change an object dimensioning numerically after the initial creation?

With the object selected, click the size to open edit size input.

Are you talking about Options, General, Unit system, unit options, to change from say inches to centimeters?

Hi Brian,

Yup, you can set the current unit system with the dropdown at the top of Options > General, and if you want to change the default units that MoI uses on startup you can do that one by pushing "Unit options".
