A google of "pdf image to png" shows image converters. (?)
(I have not tried any.)

A screen capture to png might be another option.

Hi eric, yes like Marco writes above using File > Open or File > Import MoI will only look for vector path information in PDF files.

Probably your PDF only contains a bitmap image in it (is it maybe a scan or something like that?) and doesn't have any curve data in it. If that's the case then MoI's Open command will not find anything to use in it.

If you wanted to bring it in as a background image and not as curve geometry, you need to use the View > Image command for that but you will need to convert the PDF into a regular bitmap file like JPEG or PNG for that, the background image command only uses simple bitmap files like PNG, JPEG, etc... Someday I would like to make the background image command work directly with PDFs as well, but they are quite complex to fully display.

I'm using Nitro Reader, a free but rather advanced PDF Reader

http://www.nitroreader.com/

which has got an option to extract images from a PDF file.

The easiest thing for a bitmap in a pdf is if you just left clcik it it will "highlight" and then you know it's a bitmap, then you can just right clcik it and "copy image" to paste to whatever. The pdf printers will be manipulating bitmaps too though, during print. Like setting dpi's and resizing and stretching for the output type, so you may not be getting original qualities. It's not the best way to pass around images.
