Spiderbot WIP MoI / ZBrush comparison

I'm learning ZBrush and following some excellent tutorials by Badking (http://www.badking.com.au/site/) on making a Spiderbot. What I thought would be really interesting is also modelling the Spiderbot in MoI. I haven't used MoI in a while and thought this would be an excellent opportunity to try out version 3 Beta.

This is the finished cannon that goes on top of a body that has spider legs. I'm now just waiting on the tutorial author to finish the next section so that I can carry on. The interesting thing is that most of the parts are easier to model in MoI than ZBrush as most of the shapes are fairly simple. The ZBrush tutorial however is outstanding and an excellent way to learn hard surface sculpting in ZBrush. I'll post updates if and when the ZBrush tutorials are put out. One thing that became apparent doing this model with lots of parts is MoI needs a group / hierarchy system (as does ZBrush).

Cheers

This is first time i meet you so let me say thank you for all support and teaching in C4D
I started too picking up a magazine with the free CE6 version on the cover, here in Italy

I don't have your skills but i'm sure that Moi give the fastest and easiest results modeling simple shapes like that
It's natural, especially for people with C4D background ask to Michael to improve Browser area with a hierarchy system,parent-child(i asked it too,few times)
He is a one-man-band so,first of all, keep him in health (forgive my English)

Thanks again Maestro!

Thanks for your kind words. I think anyone with experience using any 3D app will find learning and using MoI as piece of cake and it can be picked up and used constructively within a few days. Certainly a zillion times easier to learn than ZBrush.

Cheers

Re time. In most cases MoI is several times quicker. Where ZBrush creamed MoI was the flexible cable mesh insert brushes. Very quick to do and edit. A few of the other parts were done with mesh insert brushes so were quick to do. I obviously had to model these parts before copying and pasting them.

Plus of course MoI has accurate angles etc. A lot of the ZBrush modelling is by eye e.g. matching angles of parts.

Cool Spiderbot! Have you tried taking objects you created in MoI into ZBush and dynameshing them?

badking has some excellent ZBrush tutorials.

Here's a link to a MoI thread that explains how you can get your MoI model into ZBrush:
