Network doesn't work for me

I'm starting out with MoI and I'm probably missing something. I drew a circle and a couple of contour lines then tried to network but nothing happens (not even a warning message).

I have attached the file. Would have thought it should work. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

Split curves this way and it will work. You can choose A or B metod.
To split, select curves you wont to split and use trim ;) I just moved curves to show you intersection.

Reuben,

Please Trim each contour line where they intersect in the middle to make essentially four spokes. Leave the circle intact.
Then it will Network. Good luck!

Mike

Wow, what a fast response!! That's great and the irony was that I was joining them on purpose because that's what I thought I should be doing to get it to work!

Working great now :-)

How about this one though - I split some of the lines (I even tried all of them) but no luck.

Thanks again!

Works fine here, when trimming all.

Network do not work this way only the first figure.
To make this kint of thing it will be better to use sweep. Select arcs and then sweep and select rails - 2 curves on the ground. (second figure)

Hi Stefan,

Can you confirm what you trimmed and then what you selected to make it work? The only way I can make it work is to select only four pieces, and ignore the front and rear curves.

Thanks!

Hi Reuben,

as you can see in both pictures, i selected all the lines at once (see the trimming points) and applied the trim command. As second step i started with each region separately for the Network Command. Hope my explanation makes sense.

Hi Reuben, yeah in order for Network to be able to work, it needs to organize the curves into 2 separate crossing sets, and those sets should form a grid shape similar to how longitude and latitude lines on a globe can make a grid on a flat map. If you have arrangements that can not be "unwrapped" in to a regular flat grid then it won't work.

There's some more discussion on the type of arrangement that Network needs in some of these previous threads:

And Reuben, the reason why the circle with the four spoke curves touching at the middle works is because it is in fact making a 'grid' Network. It's just wrapped around a tight axis.
