I got some 400mb moi files - opening them takes some time, for sure.

But when you use the style and layer settings and switch unnessesary model parts off it helps a lot to improve the quickness of opening files.
Otherwise the settings for the display of smooth angles and the detail inflection checkbox can improve the loading times as well.

What you see is what you believe - so don't. (from an Amiga500 demo)

And just to expound on m-dynamics answer, the answer to your questions is "yes". It would be normal.

There will be a difference in a NURBS model of such great complexity, and what you are used to with C4d as a poly app. That equation wont be equal.

So with the NURBS model, you will want to take the steps of "Lighten the viewport load", which is what m-dynamics has pointed out, and also "scene managment", with hiding things that dont need to be diplayed at a particular time.

When you go to export, you may need to export it out in "parts" also..... (Plan for this)

Wicked ship and detail, BTW.

Hi mir4ea - it's normal for any software to slow down when you give it a huge number of things to deal with.

But the default MoI display settings are more oriented towards making a heavier and nicer looking display mesh - with larger models those settings can be adjusted to make a coarser display mesh which will often speed things up by quite a bit.

That's what Mauro is showing above in his screenshot - in the Options dialog View section, set "Mesh angle" to 25 and uncheck "Add details to inflections" and see if you get better behavior after that.

That will degrade the display quality a little bit with surfaces being display with a smaller number of triangles approximating them but also gain speed. It should probably help quite a bit on something with a lot of little curvy pieces like your model has.
