Hi Aeron - here is a better explanation.

To use div snap first you must create a construction line. You create a construction line when you are in a drawing command (for instance Draw curve / line) by clicking and holding down and dragging the mouse instead of clicking and releasing.

After you have done a click + drag to create a construction line, there will be a little tag that appears above your mouse:



If you move your mouse over that tag, it will light up. Click and hold down for a moment on that tag and it will launch a menu, this is where you can define div snap:



For example if you want to snap to thirds along that line (1/3, 2/3, etc..) then put in "3" in that Division snap box.

The divisions are defined between the 2 endpoints of the construction line that you drew. When you draw a construction line, it is defined by 2 points, the point you start the drag at, and the point that you released the mouse over.


Here for example I dragged out a construction line between the ends of 2 other lines, and set up a div snap so now I can snap to 1/3 the distance between those endpoints:



The divisions continue along the entire infinite extent of the construction line, so you can also snap to spots like 41/3 or -7/3, etc... , so it is possible to use the div snap as a type of quick custom spaced grid line.

Great great stuff, as usual.
You're about to create THE software that will open NURBS to "standard" polygonal users and hobbyists.
If one day the "NURBS way" of creating objects is used by a lot of persons, you can bet you will be the one that will be responsible for the whole thing.

Hi Michael,

I have two notes concerning the new beta...

Are you going to tune network surface command up so it can also handle non-intersecting curves? And what about some tolerance input for driving a surface? It would help users create a surface from roughly sketched curves.

For projecting I wish I can deselect unwanted projected curve by clicking on it (or in a different way) before command is done. It makes sense when curve is projected on both the closest side and opposite one (e.g. circle and sphere).

Good job with the Network tool Michael. As simple as the image below, only the Network tool
could do it accurately. Of course there are other tools. You might want to try. ;-)

Btw, only four curves were used in this case. Three, lenghtwise, and one, crosswise, which is in the middle.

It should generally handle non-intersecting curves already, although I have seen a couple of instances where non-intersecting curves will cause a crease in the resulting surface. I may be able to tune this up a but I'm not sure.

Do you have a non-intersecting network that is not working as you would expect? If so, please post it.

I want to work on an area related to this pretty soon, which is a rebuilding step for commands that need to merge multiple curves into one common structure. This will apply to Loft, Sweep, and Network. But I was planning on trying to do something automatically, instead of using any additional tolerance settings.

Do you have an example of the type of thing you would use the tolerance for?

I'm not quite sure how to set this up. Right now you are able to pick a point to define the start point of a new projection direction. Normally I can't do a "selection click" and a "point pick" click all at the same time.

I guess there could be another button that said something like "delete projections", but at that point it doesn't seem to be gaining very much compared to just deleting the unwanted pieces after the command is finished.

Any ideas?
