Hi Steve, MoI exports to an AI version 8 file, and I think that Inkscape only supports reading in version 9 or higher files. I think that's because they use a PDF library for handling the import, and it's only in AI version 9 and higher that the AI format was changed to be the same as PDF.

See here for some tips on other programs (Mayura draw or creature house expression) you can use to read the AI v8 file out from MoI and save out a PDF file that Inkscape can then read:

At some point in the future I do expect that MoI will write PDF files directly as well but I'm not sure exactly when.

Hi Steve,

For the opening of AI-EPS files from MoI, I'm using Xara Xtreme & it works just fine.
http://www.xara.com/us/downloads/designer

Sometimes they have specials on the older versions to get you on board.
I originally bought V2 for the princely sum of $15...and used it just for opening AI-EPS files.
I've upgraded since & now have their latest version.

HTH, Colin

Hi Steve,

i you install Uniconvertor on your machine (which i just did under OSX) you should have an additional entry in the Inkscape Open File dialog, under "Open With" Illustrator 8 or older...

Stefan

Hi Steve,

what i posted was actually an OSX solution, as you can see in my screen shot and the provided links...or do you mean you would like to have a pure OSX Inkscape vers., without X11? usage?

@Marc: The Software won't start under OSX (Snow Leopard) even i have put in in the Application folder, any ideas?

Regards
Stefan

Hi Stefan, I work with windows 7 so not I'm much help.
Maybe apple doesn't support applications written for an older version of the OS, this would be sad.

It's probably old enough that it's a PowerPC app and not an Intel one, and yes Apple dropped support for running PowerPC apps on current versions of OSX.

It used to be that Macs used a totally different kind of CPU than the Intel chips. Apple had a translation/emulation layer called 'Rosetta' that would enable them to run but that's been dropped as of OSX 10.7 I think.
