Hi Shane, something's definitely wrong there, looks like some problem with the UV trim curve information on the corner patch areas.

Can you please post the 3DM model file of that object instead of just a screenshot alone? With the 3DM model file I can have a much better chance at testing with it and seeing what might be going wrong.

Hi Michael,

Nothing special about it just a filleted cube from Rhino v5. I don't have the one from the screenshot so I created another one for you to check out. It only happens with the rolling ball option. I think is may be related to a newer nurbs format from Rhino?? If I export from Rhino in a lower version and open it in MOI it seems fine. Maybe it is something you can't correct until the Rhino 5 file format is released?

Hi Shane, it looks like probably a bug in MoI handling certain surfaces of revolution from Rhino - when the surface of revolution is rotated or something it's not getting the seam (the place where the surface of revolution is closed) in the correct location.

It looks like the file you posted though has been saved back out from MoI, so it does not have those original surfaces in it where the bug actually is at, it only has the already mangled result in it.

Can you please post the 3DM file as saved right out from Rhino so that I can test the buggy conversion and see about fixing the bug?

Thanks, - Michael

Hi Shane, thanks for posting the example file.

It appears to be a bug in the OpenNURBS library that is used for reading 3DM files - there's a call on an ON_RevSurface() that checks whether a surface of revolution is in the shape of a sphere or not, and there seems to be a bug there where it gives back a coordinate system for the sphere with the x-axis accidentally flipped in the opposite direction. That then makes the sphere surface that MoI makes to have its seam in the wrong direction.

It looks like it should not be difficult for me to avoid doing things in that particular way and solve this bug for the next v3 release.

Thanks for reporting the bug and posting the file.

- Michael
