Hi Michael,

i just was wondering if in a future beta saved .3dm files could automatically opened with MoI instead of Rhino (beta).
I had Rhino beta on my system and when saving a .3dm in MoI i always had the black Rhinoceros logo as file icon. Since Rhino beta now requires Mountain Lion i have it no longer installed and would like to have the option of a little MoI file icon, so that i can click on the files to open MoI. Currently i always have the Windows file icons from Parallels due to the fact that i have also MoI under Bootcamp, which i don't want. When choosing under OSX the option to open with other files MoI OSX is not listed.

Best regards
Stefan

Hi Michael,

switched it to MoI OSX (when choosing as app) and now the .3dm file is loading with current MoI beta, but saved .3dm files still show the Parallels logo...

+++edit+++ ok, fixed now! :-)

Regards
Stefan

Hi Stefan, it sounds like you've got it figured out now?

I think this is controlled in OSX by doing a right-click on the file and then picking the "Open with" menu, if you go to the dialog chooser there you can pick an app for the file type and then there is a checkbox to always open with that app.

I guess that's the UI for Lion and newer, for Snow Leopard right click and choose "Get info" and then the control for which app to use for that file type is on the info pane.

Hi Michael,

yes, i figured it out under Snow Leopard. First i did the "Open with" method which did not worked and then i choose the "Get Info" dialog, which works.

Best regards
Stefan

On a side note, one can also change the meaningless blank paper sheet icon of MoI's .3dm files using this procedure:

I copied the MoI app icon and all .3dm files show the bulb now. Much better!
