Seam Lines In OBJ Export

Here's what I'm trying to do:

Create object in Moi
Export to OBJ format
Render in C4D using Sketch and transparent materials

The problem is that the seam line from Moi shows up in the render as a Sketch line, as seen below.

I know there is no way to delete the seam line in Moi, but I thought there might be something in the export process that I'm doing wrong. Or perhaps there's another workaround that I'm not familiar with.

In any case, I welcome any and all input.

Patrick

Hi Patrick, I think that the Sketch render mode will make a border line anywhere where a polygon has its own separate unique vertices, instead of having shared vertices with the neighboring polygons.

If you enable the "Weld vertices along edges" meshing option when exporting out from MoI, it will make all the polygons share vertices with one another and that should get rid of the sketch lines.

If you want to get rid of only one sketch line and not others, you will probably have to do some selective welding or merging inside of C4D since there is not any method set up in MoI's mesh exporter to only weld some particular edges like seam edges only and not other ones.

Basically there should be some kind of "weld" or "merge" option in Cinema4D for making things share vertices, and also some inverse of that for breaking some selection of polygons or edges apart from their neighbors. You can try using those tools inside of Cinema4D for manipulating your object to be structured how you need to get the right sketch line effect.

AHA!

That first option did it! Knew I missed something.

Thank you so much , Michael, for the quick response AND the amazing software. Keep up the good work!

Now, does anyone know how to get these keyboard imprints out of my forehead? :P

If it does not work then you can select all edges except the ones you don want to see and click set selection.
This selection can be used in the S&T material..
