Yes, usually I agree with this and I'm normally the one to bring that up! :)

But things get a bit more inconvenient when you want to make an inset of a specific depth onto a curved surface more like an indentation rather than cutting all the way through a thin wall like you're doing in this case.

Basically anything that lets you do more work with only having to draw 2D curves as the things to control it can be quite helpful for efficiency. So an option that would allow 2D curves to be used in more situations than they are now is a good option to have I think.
