Hi Michael,
is it possible to get a 64bit version?

i have large IGES files and must convert them in OBJ for big displays. With a fine mesh output MOI3D says there is not enough memory. I have 14 gigs RAM in my OSX workstation here...

btw. same file with open beta -> no problem when i converted it to .OBJ

Hi Chico,

> is it possible to get a 64bit version?

Sorry, but no it's not likely anytime soon as there is a lot of additional work involved to produce that.

See here for more details:

The easiest solution is to select something like half your objects and then use File > Export to export just those objects to a file and then invert the selection and do the rest to a separate file. Then in your render program import both of those files.

The "Export" command is short for "Export selected" - it writes out only the selected objects to the generated file instead of everything and doing that should help to reduce peak memory consumption.

Also you can lighten the memory load somewhat by changing a setting to use a rougher display mesh, that's a setting under Options > View as described here:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4643.2

Setting the "Mesh angle" to a rougher angle like 25 degrees and unchecking "Add detail to inflections" will make for a somewhat rougher looking display but also lighten up the density of the display meshes and that can help reduce memory consumption by quite a bit on more complex models.

There is nothing changed in this area since the open beta to the release version, so that's kind of odd. But it is possible to get that behavior with things that were just barely fitting within available memory space, if you have done anything different at all like opened other files within the same program session that can possibly lead to "memory fragmentation" and give you a slightly different result than a fresh program run.

I got this message:

My system Date it is Ok, i disable firewall, I did trash the app, redownload, and make a fresh install/run with the same result, so i can't figure what is wrong.

Any Ideas?

For the records, I had no issues with beta test versions,

Hi Luis, you're getting that with the trial version not the actual final release version, is that correct?

I think there is probably some conflict with the very initial released beta version.

The public beta version has not expired yet so you can continue to run the public beta for now.

Hello, I'm having a similar problem with the trial complaining about a clock mismatch. I messed with the MoI beta for a couple months on my previous computer-- a few days ago I got a new Macbook Pro (completely fresh install, no migration) and stuck the last beta (Jun 1st release) on it, which I think I opened once. I'd really like to give the trial a shot; any chance of some kind of workaround? Oh, I am running Mountain Lion DP4, so perhaps the issue is related to that. Anyway, I'd be happy to help diagnose; I'm eager to check out the final version!

Thanks,
Will

Hi Will, there's really no difference between the 30-day trial version and the last public beta, so you can just continue to run that last public beta for the moment instead of the trial. There seems to be some problem with the 30-day trial right now where it gets confused on some people's machines. I will be looking at reworking it slightly to try and avoid that.

The actual full release version (the purchased one, not the trial) does not have any kind of expiration mechanism in it at all and so it is not affected by that problem.

Great timing! I had not really followed this effort too closely, since I use Windows almost exclusively. But my new Macbook Pro Retina is arriving soon, so suddenly this seems very interesting indeed. I'll be sure to give this a try shortly...and thanks for the dual licensing Michael, very classy of you as always.

Hi Dave, there are some issues with MoI on the new Retina Mac - Apple has introduced a new mechanism there where it basically lies to some apps and tells them that their window is only half as big as it really is so and then displays it as doubled up in size in order to avoid making things like controls too small on the screen.

Right now they did not seem to include any method to turn that mode on or off for every kind of app, so you will probably end up with MoI looking kind of weird and blocky since it will force it to use that "half size and then stretched up" display method.

You can avoid that if you set the screen to the real full resolution, and you need to use a separate utility to do that since Apple decided to not include that in the regular display settings, see this thread for some info:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=5211.1

So anyway that will be one issue that you will see on that one particular Mac model right now.

Hello, I am not able to start Moi 2.52 App on High Sierra. The Sever X11 crashes. Any solution?

Best Regards,

Hi Luca, MoI version 2.5 is an old version released 5 years ago, and I haven't been working on it for several years now. If I remember right the last OS version that runs it is 10.9/Mavericks. The current MoI version is 3.2 which has been updated recently to run on High Sierra, you would need to upgrade to that in order to run on High Sierra.

The other solution to run v2.52 would be to revert your OS to 10.9 or earlier.
