Draw from an "image" or a "photo" is always something hard because you can zoom the image!
So rounding of original form on the photo is not "precise" :)
Best is use Blueprints like this one :)

Yeah, it can be a big help if you already have some sketches or plans of some sort of the thing you're trying to build.

Sometimes you can use them as a background for tracing curves. Sometimes they can just be a general guide to help you with proportions of where to place objects.
