Just thinking how many of us pace around holding the phone waiting for a call back, or flip and spin the phone on public transport whilst whiling away the time, so i guess you could have a new trend start. Twiddle gears as you wait, wonderfully tactile and therapeutic too for those with disabilities - Great effort - get it copyrighted and look for a major supplier and take royalties!!

@ Magic

Thanks!
> Is that Kraftwerk in the background?

Not sure, I downloaded it from a royalty free music website and looked for the Popcorn song because during my apprenticeship days that's what the intro music was at the beginning of the engineering educational videos.........on Beta format :)

@ Burr, thanks dude.

@ Martin, Thanks! and no I haven't got a train set never did, I was a 'build it yourself' model airplane, car, ship kid.
Twiddling was the idea, if there's enough interest maybe mass producing would be a good idea.

Cheers

>Not sure, I downloaded it from a royalty free music website and looked for the Popcorn song... Yep, Kraftwerks may have covered it...

The original version is "Popcorn" produced by Gershon Kingsley in 1969, later covered by a group called Hot Butter in '73 - which became the most popular version. Both used the Moog synthesizers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn_(song)

And later, many techno versions.

That came out really nice Danny. It looks like the plastic held some fairly tight tolerances. Did you need to make any adjustments or ream the holes at all?

The physical result turned out great! It's a hoot to see the gears spinning.

Thanks guys!

Hi Ed,

> Did you need to make any adjustments or ream the holes at all?

Yeah I did, because of the nature of SLS printing it comes out a bit like fine sand paper with high and low spots, not much though, I had to open the holes up by 0.10mm (0.004") and the gears were a little tight at first but after a few spins they loosened up, I learned a lot about the end result of 3d printing and will make some adjustments in design to suit, if I was to make an injection mould the pieces would be more accurate, I did design clearances into the parts but not enough for printing.

Cheers
