flow and cut spheres...

I'm not sure if this has been posted before so don't hang me if I overlooked some topic.

While testing the flow command I found something pretty strange:

Using an arc and revolving it 180 degrees and then use the flow to project something gives a different result than a sphere cut to 50%, giving me the same shape.

The flow around the sphere seems to ignore that there are parts not there anymore. (you can see that the hexagonal pattern is going all around even though there is no bottom half of the sphere anymore)

attached a picture illustrating this issue.

Hi Macray,

If you turn on the control points you can see the difference between the two, here's a discussion explaining it further http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4487.68

With circles and spheres. I have noticed that is good to calculate the right "lenght" for the base to flow, following the diameter of the sphere or the circle.

For, Pi = 3,141593;
P (perimeter; or C, circumference) = 2 Pi R;
R = P / 2Pi = P / 6,2831;
P = Pi D (3,141593 x D);

Example: for 10 in diameter; P = Pi D = 3,1415 x 10 = 31,415, so the length of base to flow = 31, 415.

I believe that can help sometimes.

thank you all!

I was just surprised by the result and therefore wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for all the reactions!

What you see is what you believe - so don't. (from an Amiga500 demo)
