Hi Sirius, it turned out nicely!

In MoI you can assign "Styles" to your various objects and then use the scene browser to turn on or off different styles similar to layers. For that use the scene browser:

Currently MoI only exports materials to the OBJ and LWO file formats. I do want to add it to 3DS in the future, but in general you should try and avoid 3DS format if possible since it is a very old format and limited in several ways, like a 16-bit limit on the number of points in a single mesh object and no support for vertex normals for transferring smooth shading information.

I'm not familiar with GAMMA-RAY but most rendering programs are able to use OBJ format, so if possible use OBJ rather than 3DS and you should probably get a better transfer including materials. You may need to set the "Output: Quads & Triangles" option when exporting out from MoI if GAMMA-RAY does not like to deal with complex n-gons.

Hello,
Once thank you for the nice replies and tips.

Michael,
yes GAMMA-RAY can deal with OBJ.
I'll try it.
Use colors as layers, good tip.
In the simplest ideas is not one!

Bye
Sirius

I would love to see a C4D format. :-) but obj works great as well. You've done a great job on the exporter..

Peace,

Hi Rich_Art,

> I would love to see a C4D format. :-)

You mean the C4D native format? Would you gain any advantage by using that format over OBJ? It seems like MoI would be writing the same data to it as to OBJ format so I don't know that you would see any difference in the end result...

It's not like C4D has a bad OBJ importer - it seems to have a really robust and well functioning one, particularly if you use the Riptide plug-in to get the full materials list imported as well.

It would be nice to have format that keep the camera data.

I think that should not be tooo hard to setup the camera position and angle yourself and the .obj files are really nice for the moment.
No need for .c4d here if the good .obj is kept as it is.

What you see is what you believe - so don't. (from an Amiga500 demo)

No problems. As said OBJ works like a charm so I don't know if there are any benefits if you could manage a C4D native format.
So forget my question. :-) It works ok as it is now.

Peace,

Yes it's not to hard, but it would definitely be handy on repetitive projects.
I understand that FBX format can store camera data, maybe it would be an option.

Nice modeling Sirius Btw!

Yeah the problem is that file formats usually involve a pretty considerable amount of work and testing, it's a pretty major undertaking to support new file formats.

So there kind of needs to be some nice benefit that would be gained from the file format in order to justify the time spent on developing it...

I've made a note to look into that - I'll probably be doing some work on FBX export at some point here to support materials export as well.
