Let's try new tool FLOW in a complex situation
there are many ways to draw a 3d hull,i want one made by solid wooden planks. Now make half hull with a 3-profile sweep and 2 rails

Photobucket

this will be the surface flow target where i'll flow the solid planks. If you want to understand how the planks will flow take a look first to the flow surface's mesh.Hit export and select the surface.
the direction of the mesh rule the direction of the flowed planks

Photobucket

you see the front wiew:the mesh converges to the upper corner,if i flow now the end part of the planks will bended to the corner, and we'll loose too much the original size of them
so i'll make a new flow surface made of 5 profiles sweep and two rails

Photobucket

now compare the new mesh with the old one:see how is much more straight to the corner than before

Photobucket

new mesh not converge to the corner like before,so now we can make the planks, bevel them a little and flow

Photobucket

see that flowed planks follow the target mesh. Now make the rest of the canoe.Sweep the main central plank, copy and use it to cut the final part of the planks in excess

Photobucket

now make the outrigger frame, see projecting a line to obtain the shape of the inner hull

Photobucket

than mirror half hull..that's all.I like it !! I know..need more accuracy and care but is a try...

Photobucket

Using flow,in this case,we loose the original section of the planks,at the end,but working better on the target flow surface could give better results
so guys, take a look at the mesh target to kown how flow will work ( Michael tell us if i speak right...)
Now put the outrigger canoe...at home..

The first very curvated profil is a real profil?

Cool tut and very nice postal card!

Hi Mauro, another great Flow example, thanks for posting it!

And yes that is a great idea to use a mesh export to get a visualization of the UV flow of the surface. That should work fine - the polygon quad structure will go along the UV directions of the surface same as how Flow works.

here is the model to download for free, you can sweep the splines and make the surface flow target
like thread's title says... canoe made by solid "wooden" planks. It's not an accurate 3D model, just a concept, but i like it!
check it out !!

Thanks,Mercy,Grazie

Thankyou Rich_Art
i see your gallery:great job with Hair and Bodypaint...BRAVO!!
You are Master of C4D,so let me ask you an off-topic thing:
i don't like new Maxon's commercial philosophy..no more modules !
I need Sketch& Toon.I have UPDATED 10.5 with AR-2 to R12 PRIME,if i want it,i have to buy VISUALIZE but i'm not interested to use AR-3-OKINO-Wirtual Walkthrough so:why i have to buy all the stuff if i'll not use??
ok..new marketing strategy..ok..
so do you know a plug-in to perform something like Sketch&Toon?i think don't exist (CEBAS offers it now with Final Render but i'm not interested to use it,like AR-3)
any new?

Thanks for the kind words. :-)

I see more users complaining about the strategy from Maxon. I can understand people don't want to pay for things they don't use.
Regarding S&T, there are shaders on the net which can do more or less a S&T style but they are no way near what the S&T module can do of course.

So if you only need a kind of a toon shader, search the net on "shades of cell" Although I don't know if they still available or work with R10.5.

Peace,
Rich_Art. ;)
