Looks great Dan!

Yeah there should be quite a variety of patterned 3D shapes that will be a lot easier to construct with being able to build them in a flat plane to start out with.

For applying them on to a sphere it may be a good idea to leave a little bit of margin area between your objects and the top and bottom edges of the plane, because those regions are compressing down to just a single point on the sphere and probably creating some degenerate geometry there. Probably it's ok for stuff like rendering though.

Nice! Flow is really going to simplify and make new types of models possible. Just need one of those new hobby 3D printers :)

Ha topmod... I played with it several years ago. At that time it was very unstable. Is it still buggy?

Peace,
Rich_Art. ;)

I still use TopMod once in a while, you just have to be very cautious.;)
Here's some Geodesics in trueSpace from TopMod:

Here's the Flow object with a basic gold material rendered in Modo:

I did leave a small space on the top and right side of the flat plane and it seemed to work OK but I could see how it could cause problems with the top/bottom of the target mapped sphere.

This is a dome friends and I made before the days of 3D.;)

PS. - we didn't kill the moose, they were there when we got there.

Thanks Guys! Yes, I like the illustrated look of contours. :)

Cool pattern! Just imagine trying to model that one directly in place in 3D...
