The first v3 beta (version Aug-24-2011) is now available for download here:
http://moi3d.com/beta.htm , also linked to from the download page on the main web site.

Brief overview:

New Flow command (Transform > Deform > Flow, no icon yet) for deforming objects from one "backbone" to another, some examples in this other thread:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4363.124
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4363.65

I'll assemble some more information about it tomorrow in this thread.

New selection indicator in the scene browser - shows a yellow dot on the right hand side to show if an item has selection or not, also now click on that spot to select or deselect things in the scene browser. Also you can use Ctrl+click on that same spot to set a selection filter which is also new.

Major overhaul to many internals - the UI is now based off of WebKit/JavaScriptCore instead of mshtml.dll/JScript.dll , updated to new OpenNURBS v5 library for reading 3DM files - this enables reading of Rhino v5 files and should round trip stuff like extended layer properties to Rhino v4 better. Also updated to the newest release of the Solids++ geometry library which has some various bug fixes in it. There may be some regressions due to all this various library churn, let me know if something that worked in v2 doesn't seem to work in v3.

The Flow command really has potential ! It should be easy to create complex patterns.
Great addition to the toolset.

So far I've seen no difference in the UI. This beta version behaves very well.

Happy MoI user since beta version of August 13 2006...

Hey Michael

That was awesome, thanks a million and a half!!!!
I do have one question though...
You did mention in another thread that you would definitely incorporate continuity options for the network surface command. Is this still the case and you're saving this feature for another build, or have you abandoned that idea for this version of MOI(I pray to the NURBS Gods that you didn't)?

Hi Michael,

I had a little play and in regards to the selection filters, with mixed styles on a single solid if I filter one of the styles on the solid and select Faces in the Type selection the entire solid is selected, I was expecting the faces with the filtered style to select only.

Cheers
~Danny~

For me it seems, V3 is a little bit faster with complex objects.

Michael G. The deform tool is really cool!

Question, what is you projected cost for v3 when released? New vs existing users?

Nice Michael. As usual, your beta releases are solid. I'll try some models using the deformation tool.

Bug report: selecting a style name no longer selects all objects of that style.

Hello,

For some reason I just see the placeholder for the deform tool but no icon. Perhaps a short tut would be good. On a side note it seems my models are loading faster, or is it just my brain tricking me? As usual the beta is very stable, great work.

Hello,

I am having a view reset problem, I load a file and when I hit the view reset button it zooms out so far that the model becomes a dot on the screen.

Hi Yenmonger,

I thought that too, but move your cursor to the right of the style name and you will find a button that does that. See JPEG:

Not sure I like the changes to the selections process. In V2, if I click on an an objects name it selects that object or objects. In V3 it doesn't do anything. Similarly in V2 if I click the type curves, say, it selects all curves. In V3, it doesn't do anything. Same with styles. Is this a bug or is it deliberate?

EDIT: Just realised that you now have to click to one side of the text name in the blank area. Works OK but it would be nice if there was a visual indicator like an empty circle when nothing is selected. Just as a hint to click there.

Hi niko,

> incorporate continuity options for the network surface command.

Actually what I really want to have first is a separate "Match" command that will allow you to modify 2 surfaces to be smooth to one another, no matter which particular command was used to create them.

Then possibly at some point that could get built in to the Network command but that may not be necessary.

I haven't abandoned it, I just have not had a chance to work on that yet.

Thanks for the report - looks like this happens if the style that you marked as filtered also happened to be the style that was assigned to the brep parent object, I'll take a look at fixing that.

I'm not really sure yet, but probably an upgrade from v2 to v3 will be the same cost as it was from v1 to v2.

There is still a long ways to go before v3 is finished, I don't yet have any finalized plans for its release yet.
