50 microns is 0.002". I don't know what all goes into the determining the accuracy, but 0.002" is easy to get using hobby grade CNC linear slides used on desktop milling machines. I expect the price will be very reasonable.
I've been following a similar blog about a low cost engraving laser kit, using a Chinese tube as it's most expensive component. Several have been built for around $2,000 and compare with commercial units costing 10 times as much. Reminds me of the home brew computer movement back in the 70's.
At any rate, MoI is ready to design parts for this machine.
