Good day all,

I need to import a nurb surface .wire file into MoI to convert it into a decent polygon mesh to the export out for modo.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this.

Many thanks

S.

Hey Pilou

The file comes from Alias originally.

I can open it in Maya but I can't seem to get a file format out that is suited to MoI importer.

According to http://filext.com/file-extension/WIRE :
The WIRE file type is primarily associated with 'Wavefront' by Alias.

And Wikipedia says :
Alias Systems Corporation (formerly Alias|Wavefront), headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was a software company that produced high-end 3D graphics software. The company was formed in 1995 when Silicon Graphics bought Alias Research, which was founded in 1983, and Wavefront Technologies, founded in 1984, then merged the two companies. It is now owned by Autodesk, the producers of AutoCAD and 3ds Max.

Autodesk has something to offer: http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Alias/enu/2012/Help/0000-Alias_He0/0726-Referenc726/1435-Command_1435/1436-Platform1436

Curious because I see that Alias has these IGES & STEP in native.
Why not take these for a direct importation in Moi?

.wire is the default binary filetype for Alias... You will want to open then file in Alias and export to a format that MoI reads..

Hi sticklebrick - yeah the native Alias wire files are not supported by very many other programs. Usually whoever sent you the file should be aware of this and would have sent you the file in one of the more commonly used formats like STEP or IGES.

Other than Alias itself, I think it's possible to set up the Polytrans program from Okino to read in .wire files as well:
