True to your last statement Michael G.!

I was just running MoI through the paces :-)

I may try letting it run later, and I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks,

Michael T.

Hey Danny,
Actually, Rhino makes pretty quick work of this, though I just lost all my saves to save the result out....

Importing this cloud in Rhino you have the option to bring it in as a special entity type "as one", which opens it really quick.. Then it has a section tool to work it pretty quick.. I havnt explored it fully to see if it is more automated than a single plane at a time, but even a single plane at a time I could have a surface in about an hour...

I'm fooling around with a result in MoI right now using ConnectPoints, but I have to do it plane by plane and each calc takes a few minutes to complete...

I've got about 1/18th of the house done so far.. I will have to use rebuild on the resulting curve after I get them... The curve through points would be nice to automate on a plane type selection of points. Or if the ImportPoints script was more robust in it's curve creation to set a "plane direction" to get a desired result..

Anyway, I'll post if I get anything that looks somewhat acceptable.

I think it's a case of getting the points to poly's first, then 3dc will do a good job with it... I dont think 3dc will read points... I asked them awhile back to read DICOM files also, and got no response... If they did this, it could be a huge avenue for them...

Hi Michael T.

So last night I did about this much:

Which allows me to loft it. I'm looking at different settings to get a good loft, without loosing detail, though not trying to create the irregularities of the point conversion.

3dm fail
Iges partial fail
Sat Fail

Message error speak about an Exange pluging ?

Hi Frenchy,
The file imports OK to Powershape.

"Exchange" is the translator program Powershape-e uses. It is a seperate download. It will show up on the welcome menu in Powershape and is free to download and use. It is also their system for creating "Vouchers" that will be used if you want to pay for your model "Translation out" of Powershape...

Be sure to download and install both programs to use it properley (Latest versions).

Go to "View/toolbars/explorer" and clcik on the browser tab in the explorer window.

Note: You dont have to open and use exchange, it just needs to be installed. Then Powershape will use it when doing imports of different formats.

@ BUR: Works fine !
It's funny to load something more of 100 megas for a translator ;) But That works fine now for 3dm format! ;)
It's cool for see if something is wrong on a volume / surface !

Hi Frenchy,
Yes, it has extensive analysis/repair tools. The program is heavy though.. I doubt it would run on a normal desktop.

For some reason when I updated this model I had no trouble at all adding a fillet to the blade/hub joint. This is what I originally wanted but it would never work in Rhino or MoI. In MoI, I could at least transition from the hub to blade as previously posted. Here it is a much better blend between the two. I believe it was a 1mm G1 Fillet, if not, it was something close to that. I followed the same process as always. The input data is slightly different though, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Edit; The attachment has been removed to save server space. My final product, from this thread, is available on my website at http://propdesign.weebly.com/. Look for MoI_Example.zip.
