It's possible to curves from a 3Ds Max editable Poly (NURMS Sub D surface) object into MOI.

select all edges
apply mesh smooth (NURMS mode)
apply a edit_poly modifier
subobject mode = #edges
press “create shape”

Next export the new lines as an IGES file.

When it comes into MOI many of the cures will be in segments but you can join them and rebuild them. This will give you a fairly clean set of curves to start building MOI surfaces from.

Let me expand on what this process does. If you just export a NURMS smoothed mesh as an IGES you will get every single polygon. The above method gives you just the base edges of the control cage as projected onto the model which is much easier to work with.
