Seeing these demo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LTKFWt-Mrg&NR=1
seems there are no problems for draw some curves with the Moi Program
because you have no need to much pressure sensibilities

Curiously number of pressure sensibility is not writed?
http://fr.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Slate_EP121/#specifications

founded! 256 levels pressure if I believe this demo

Knowing the increase number of pc tablet sell (!), Would Michael improve MOI function and tools for such new computer in V3 ?
Thanks.

Pierre.

For the moment i believe you can't draw 3D free lines in 3D space, even you draw in 3D window, you will be on the ground!
Or used the C PLAN! but a free curve will be on the first cplan started!
Or you will be in the plan of the first window started!
There is no snap with 3D volume and free curves!!

Of course it's not the same with the other curves by Controls or by points ;)

Hi Pilou,

> For the moment i believe you can't draw 3D free lines in 3D space,
> even you draw in 3D window, you will be on the ground!

Right, I mean your computer screen is a 2D thing, so a mouse cursor location on the screen does not define a single point in 3D space, it defines an infinite ray that shoots out through the viewing window into the scene.

When you are drawing something like a line, you need to specify a single 3D point, not an infinite ray, so that ray needs to be intersected with something in order to produce a point. The plane that is intersected with is the construction plane - by default it is flat on the ground in the 3D view but you can change it to set it at any particular orientation you want.

It's also possible to draw directly on surfaces - that will intersect the view screen ray with the surface instead of the drawing plane.

Also you can use object snap to snap the endpoint of a line on to any particular existing point in the model like on to ends of existing pieces, etc...

One good method for placing a point at some 3D location in space is to drag a construction line up from the ground plane (make sure "Straight snap" is enabled so that you will get the z axis snap line) - that will give you a vertical line that you can track along to place the point you want.

Also it is possible to set up a script so that you can orient the cplane to the current viewing direction of the 3D view, that's available here:

Bonjour Pierre,

Yes that should run MoI well, see here for a previous discussion:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=4263.1

One thing to be aware of is that there are 2 different models, the high end model has double the disk size and system RAM from the low end one but at a minimal cost increase.

Yes but i was talking about "free hand" line (curve) so you can't have helpers with it because the first click even without release is the beginning of the curve! ;)

Hi Pilou - oh you mean the Sketch curve command.

Yeah that one is a bit different since it is all done with one kind of brush stroke.

That one always goes directly on the construction plane. If you want to sketch something at a particular angled 3D plane, the script mentioned here can be a quick way to set the construction plane to the current view direction:

But probably Pierre was asking more about how the machine functioned for 3D graphics display and not really asking about how to use particular commands in MoI?

Hi Pilou,

I understood it more like: will the machine function overall well enough for 3D graphics applications so that I could use MoI on it.

Hi Pilou, no I currently don't have any plans to use pressure sensitivity in MoI.

Remember - MoI is basically a type of CAD program and it has an overall general focus on accurate drawing mechanisms.

Pressure on the other hand is a fluctuating thing, it's something that is better suited to a program that's more focused on more organic sculpting type stuff rather than on accurate constructions.

Hi Michael & Pierre,

A friend of mine recently bought one of these Slate machines & we did a quick tested of MoI on it for the Jewellery Forum we're on.
Here's the video of us having a quick poke at it.

http://www.youtube.com/user/nauseumster#p/a/u/1/4-9XPbYQpug

I was using the Pen that's supplied with the Slate...note that it doesn't have any Buttons for Right click.
The machine seems quite capable of handling a MoI model, but I wouldn't consider it as a replacement for a Desktop or Laptop.

HTH, Colin

That's cool Colin!

BTW you hit the TAB key on the virtual keyboard to get the focus in the box to type a command :)

Cheers

Maybe it's possible to have a pen with button?
Do you can use a pen for another tablet like a wacom tablet?

Also for Colin, Using the rotate widget from the viewport, there is an option which can help the rotation and others, under view/rotate/pan/zoom... I think the sensativity slider will help with the speed of the rotation with regard to how far you have to move your pen.. Your mesh angle helps with the viewport being sluggish due to a large heavy model, though I think you were looking for more speed with less pen movement... MoI is cool!

Hi Everyone,

@Danny & Burr, Thanks for those pointers.

@Pilou, I've been told that you can use the other normal sized Wacom Pens with Buttons & this machine will recognise them.
The supplied Pen or Stylus fits into a small hole on the side of this machine, where as the normal sized Wacom Pens wouldn't.
If you're on the move & carrying this machine in a bag, then adding a normal size Wacom Pen into a pocket wouldn't be an issue.

HTH, Colin
