Hi Rudl, yeah since you can just draw directly on a plane surface object, those can often be used for the same kind of purpose.

Setting the cplane switches even more stuff to that plane, like typed in coordinates and also the Top/Front/Right views switch to be views of it. But if you just want to draw things with the mouse in the 3D view, doing that directly on a plane surface can work well.
