A mug... for coffee, or tea... or hot chocolate

OK, so this is the first Moi3D model I´ve used in "production"
It was made in about 10 minutes. I used a profile curve and a revolve to make the "body" of the mug, and swept 5 profiles along a curve for the handle. The handle was attatched with a boolean union and fillet. Then I took the exported .obj into XSI and rendered at 2k resolution. (Which took a bit longer than the actual modeling.)

Hi Linker, that's great! I think that's a great example of the type of thing that MoI can be really useful for when used with other programs - when you need something simple you can do it in MoI with a minimal amount of fussing around...

Does XSI handle n-gons in .obj files well?

Pilou: Thanks:-) The rendering took around 15 minutes, mostly because I went a bit overboard on soft shadows and such. I guess the settings could be tuned to render in about half that time without too much notable quality loss.

Michael: Yeah, MoI is great for these kinds of objects. Doing this in a poly-modeller would have either taken too long, or resulted in a "messy" object. XSI handles n-gons in .obj files quite well, there's only two situations I can think of where they'd be a problem. If for some reason you'd need to smooth the object further, both the Catmull-Clark and the Doo-Sabin algorithms will lead to slightly warped texture coordinates on n-gons. And, if you want to deform the objects in animation, large n-gons such as end-caps etc. can lead to some triangulation popping in resulting non-planar n-gons.

I currently use XSI Rhino and now Moi.... XSI perfectly support the *.iges files...try it you can mantain the original curves and generate in XSI automatic UVW for the tastures. Powerfull !!

sorry for my english!

Just did a re-lighting of this during the week-end. Added a couple of side lights and reduced the power of the key light to avoid the over-exposure.

Nice job with the re-lighting, it feels a lot more realistic.
