Michael,
I modeled some components and exported using (Save as) to STEP. I then imported the file into Pro/ENGINEER which comes in fine but with errors (Geom Check, which could mean sliver edges).
I then tried to add datum axis to the cylindrical parts so that I could then assemble the parts in Pro/ENGINEER assemblies. However, Pro/ENGINEER will not recognize cylinders exported via STEP, because what usually will happen is I can select the curved wall of a cylinder to then have an axis run through the center.
I even tried modeling a cylinder with the same exercise with the same results.
Now, what's really interesting is I did this on an older version of Pro/ENGINEER (Wildfire 2) but importing to Wildfire 5 seemed to have the expected results.
This might serve as a warning for now, because I'm kinda scratching my head as to why such a basic shape has 2 results. But what could be an issue is anyone else using different CAD systems expecting standard results.
