More updates on the light cycle. Some subtle changes in the main body, I think this is closer to being a
final design. For fun, I tried compositing one of the movie's characters over my bike and compared the
movie bike to see how things line up:

If any of you guy's rid motorcycles in the real world and have any critiques of how this looks please let me
know! I've never ridden a motorcycle, so I'm not very familiar with what's realistic for a riders position.

This shows the idea for how you'd accelerate the bike, basically push back and down on the pedal platform
which would slide along the curve where it's held along the side of the rear wheel. The idea is that the pedals
offer more resistance as you go faster so you have to maintain a certain level of pressure - if you completely
relax the pedal goes back to it's "off" position and the bike slows to a stop.

Ah, well that guy is clearly using the wrong technique! I thought everyone knew that you whipped out your control wand, threw it in the air, sprinted after it into a running leap, and then the bike materialized under you and you raced away. Clearly the guy in the video is a rank amateur. Once I get Jarvis to fab the bike out, I'll make a demo video ;)

couple more shots - now have better handle bars and added pedals. The only thing left I think is dashboard UI and a couple of fixes here are there.

Couple more renders, shows off the dashboard and handle bars. The dashboard was done in Moi too - all 2d curves which I then extruded really thin 3d objects out of.

Hi Jim, it's really getting polished - I like the dashboard.

Must be pretty close to being finished?

Yeah it's close, I'd like to fix the exhaust bits, the triangular like shape that snakes up in the rear, I'd like to make those integrate better - they seem just kind of pasted in there.

Hey guys. Long time. Just wanted to show you guys what the final model is looking like in Houdini. This was all done to build a little animation with a character (you can see more about that here: http://learning3dfromscratch.blogspot.com/2011/08/more-sierra-poses.html and here http://learning3dfromscratch.blogspot.com/2011/07/sierra-strikes-pose.html) riding the bike.

When I exported the bike from Moi the poly count was pretty high, over 1.5 million polys, which I figured was a bit extreme for using in an animation. So I rebuilt the model in modo using subd techniques and then freezing the mesh and further optimizing it where possible. So the below shot is what that final model looks like brought back into Houdini and rendered there (with Motion blur and a first cut at the light trail). The final model has around 400K polys, probably still overkill, but at least more manageable.
