Hey everyone,

I am happy to see that many of you already have found the way to or software by the old "Augenblick 0.8" thread.

Today I want to announce that the public beta version has been released and can be downloaded for free. When starting the app you have a 30 day trial, but we will renew it for free until the 1.0 release arrives. If you haven't tested the old alpha you should give RenderGin a try now and if you already have tested the alpha you should check back since a lot has changed:

> You can use NURBS directly including trimming curves (which were disabled in the alpha)
> Import directly from 3dm format
> Inspect an render you most complex NURBS datasets in the highest possible geometric detail

Download it on www.numenus.de/download_en.html

If you have files that do not render correctly, please help us to improve RenderGin by making that file (or parts of it) available to us, so that we can fix the issue.

I hope RenderGin is an interesting piece of software for you and a cool addition to the great MoI Software.

By the way, we will have EDU-Versions available shortly and additionally we will have a general 50% discount while in beta phase - which means as a stundet you can get your hands on a full license very very cheap :)

One last thing: Please be patient if our webserver is a little bit slow. Currently our server is under pressure by many visitors :)

Best regards,
Oliver

Hi,

okay well needless to say that this is not intended. Can you give me your system specs? Specifically I need to know your Processor and Graphics card. Anything else might help. Which langauge version of windows are you running?

Cheers,

Sorry, I asked a question in the old thread. How do I open a 3DM file in the new beta? The option seems to have disappeared.

The only options now are PLY or OBJ. Also it won't open OBJ files exported from MoI.

So far, zero results. Not as good as the alpha.

Hi SteveMacc,

It seems that the trial wasn't activated properly. We are currently investigating this issue. However, this is not a big deal. Please have a look in the License Manager and send me your Installation-ID. Then I can give you an unlock code which will give you the 30 day trial. During evaluation you should be able to import all supported formats, including 3dm of course.

Best

Oliver

Well I am sorry :) We have our own forum at forum.numenus.de and I invite anyone to discuss details with us there. Somehow it seems this forum is more popular ;)

The process is there (104MB) but it's dead... lol

Oh well...

Hi NightCabbage.

Had the same problem first time I ran it. Tried a second time using "Run as Administrator" and it started.
Don't know if this will help you. However I have no option to load 3dm files, just obj and ply files.

Cheers
Mal

Hi Medi and NightCabbage,

it seems like you have some issue with the license system. Could you do me a favor and start the license manager external application (you can also start it from the start menu) and tell me what the license status is.

What OS are you using?

Please feel free to send me your Installation-ID (info@numenus.de) and I will send you back an unlock key which unlocks the trial. Then you can use 3dm import.

Does anyone else reading this thread having that problem? Then please help us figuring out the issue by telling us which OS you are using. I assume we have a problem with some flavours of windows, where the service does not start correctly or something.

best regards,
Oliver

Ok I got it working. You were right, just needed to run it again and it worked...

Also I can import .3dm files (just through the import function).

However, I don't think I understand... how can you apply materials to objects?

-EDIT-

lol, for some reason I didn't notice the "Library" button at the top.

Also, OS = WinXp SP3.

Thanks for the info. In the meanwhile I could reproduce the error (in a VM) that RenderGin will not start on the very first start on a machine... I still wonder what that could be, though I have or licensing system under suspicion.

Please keep me posted about your expiriences/ideas how to impreove/extend. You can also send us a mail directly (info@numenus.de)

Best,

Oliver

I've got the unlock code - thanks.

First impressions are that it is quite slow opening Nurbs files from MoI. It goes fast at first then crawls along from about 80% - is this where it's calculating the trim surfaces?

Also, all solids seem to broken down into individual surfaces, making it hard to find and texture parts of a model.

The texture library seems to cause a high number of crashes.

Hi,

we are using the OpenNURBS library for importing and nearly 95% of the computation time is spent in the library rather than in our code - so there is not so much we can do about the import speed. However, if MoI is using OPenNURBS as well and is faster in opening, then we might be doing something redundant and there is a chance it gets faster in the future :)

How exactly can you crash the library? Is there a way to reproduce it?
