.otf Fonts

For a logo design, I have to use the font trajanpro.otf. I have installed in windows and work like a charm, but not inside moi.
There is something I can do?
For the moment I can ask a friend to use his copy of Illustrator and import a .ai in Moi.

Thanks
Luca

Hi Luca, as far as I know the Windows calls that MoI uses to retrieve the font outline information only work with TrueType fonts.

So for an .otf font, you may need to convert it to a .ttf font instead in order for it to work directly with MoI, it looks like there is one converter for that here:
http://www.fontlab.com/font-converter/transtype/

It is possible to sift through the font data files more directly rather than using the Windows function to access the font information, but unfortunately that is a major step up in complexity and not easy to deal with.

Ok Michael. Unfortunatly the SE version doesn't convert to/from OpenFont.
I solve with ai anyway.

Thanks for your support.

Hi Luca, I've been looking into it some more and it looks like there may be a way for me to enable using .otf fonts after all without trying to access the font files directly, I should know more after a couple of tests.

But this would not be ready until MoI v3 though.

I found a couple of things that I haven't tried, but maybe they can help.

Hi Luca, so I found out some more information.

There are actually 2 different varieties of .otf font files - one variety has "TrueType Outlines", and the other variety has "PostScript Outlines".

The "TrueType Outlines" type of .otf file should work currently in MoI v1 and v2.

The "PostScript Outlines" type of .otf file will not currently work in MoI v1 or v2, but I think that I have got this fixed up so that MoI v3 should be able to use them.

Michael,
just for your information the font I need to use is this one:

http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/FB/TRAP/F_TRAP-10005000.html

Adobe, so maybe is the PS.... It's well recognize by windows, not by moi.

Thanks omac12! I will try today the conversion.

Hi, falcon76,
Just checking to see if you were able to find a resolution to your problem? If so, could I ask what solved it? I've a feeling I'd like to be prepared in case I wind up in the same boat.

Dear omac12, sorry for the late reply, busy with some stuff.
Anyway, at the beginning I solve just with the text needed saved in .ai from Illustrator.
But after I need more control inside Moi. The tool discovery by Michael was too expensive for me (it's just a personal project, no money for this.....).
So I try your suggestion. No luck with the first link. I have download from the second one the freeware Type light 2.2 software (there are two professional version 2.2 and 3.0) and it make the conversion very well!
I just need to use the option: "Convert to TT curves" from "Global Ops" menu', because as already said by Michael the .otf contain some Postscript curves. Save as... in .tff and after the installation of the true type in Windows, the font was perfectly usable inside moi.

So thanks for your help!

You're welcome. As I said before I had not tried them, so thank you for doing the testing for me. Now I know what works. :-)
