Orphan Edges

Hi All,

From time to time I end up with "Orphan" Edges in my models - that I can't get rid of. See attached - file "24Tri CabTop.3dm" and check the Objects in the Scene Browser.

Am I doing something wrong? How do I get rid of them?

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Roger, so you're talking about these edges here:

If you zoom in a ways on those, you'll be able to see that they're actually part of a thin little slivery surface:

That's actually a separate object from your main other piece, so just select it and delete it to get rid of it, I've attached a version of your model with that deleted.

Usually when you see some kind of mysterious extra edges where you can't see the surface, it means you've got some kind of thin little slivery surface there, which are hard to see unless you zoom in closely to them.

Thanks Michael,

I wasn't zooming in far enough - either that or my old eyes aren't up to it ;-)

Problem now fixed - has been bugging me for days.

Roger

No problem Roger - also another thing you can do to get rid of some little unwanted parts is to select the big things that you know you want to keep, and then invert the selection and delete.

Invert selection is available under the Select tab on the side pane, but it can also be good to set it up as a keyboard shortcut so you can push the I key to do it.

To set up invert selection as a keyboard shortcut, go to Options > Shortcut keys, and add in a new entry. For the Key part on the left side put in I , and for the command part paste in the following:
script:moi.geometryDatabase.invertSelection();
