Hi! A free-time project of an old friend.

I started a while ago, a much more longer project than I thinked.
I know the lens was going to be work but it turns out the body was way more!

The camera is still working, although not often...

Marc

Cool camera and love the details Marc, great modelling!
I used to have the Minolta x700, which I regretfully sold :(

Cheers
~Danny~

It's even worse if you shoot slide film and not negatives. I've been using the service of these guys http://www.northcoastphoto.com/ because they offer very good hi-res scans, even though it's expensive and I feel silly sending my films across the ocean.

Marc - lovely model and renders

Thanks for the comments!

I'm surprised to see people here still using film.

It's about as heavy as the real thing too, 65mb for a 1kg camera.

Hi Marc, that is awesome!

And it's nice to see the quality in Octane to be so much improved now.

Great model Marc,

is the text on the camera 3D or how did you map the camera in MOI?

Nice work, lots of detail ... I can imagine it took you a pretty good amount of time.
Do you mind if I ask how long you have been working on the modeling?

Thanks! :-)

@Dirk: The lens is modeled and I used images for the Iso wheel at the top.
After aligning the numbers on the lens circumference, numbers were extruded using "both sides" options.
This way it would stick out of the lens completely, also making it easier to select when doing the Boolean operations.

@Armin: It's hard to say as it was a free time project, a little bit from time to time. I would say around two days if I put it end to end.
While doing the project I realized the unseen complexity of it, those people at Minolta sure put a lot of love in their device.

One tricky thing was to transpose various text measurement on the curved lens

A large post-it stuck on the lens did the job, writing marks a their position.

In Moi, I imported the scanned post-it, scaled it and positioned the text over.

No space shuttle accuracy there but fast and good enough!

Really cool model Marc, the lighting is a little bit too flat for me, but it's just a matter of taste.
Are you using a normal map for the black body part ?

Hi PaQ, Merci!

Yes It's a normal map from Zbrush for the black body part.

I'm still learning in the rendering department, especially concerning Hdr Lightning.
It Looks ok to me though, but I imagine you could make it a lot better!

Hi Marc,

Well normal maps are looking really great in octane then !
And I didn't mean I could do better with only hdr maps for the lighting ;) (I'm just a modeler).
