Hi Michael

When I click on the curvy line it tells me the size is 4'-0"
but when I click on the straight line connecting the two end points it tells me that the length is 4'-1" ..

Why the discrepancy?

thanks,
eric

Hi Eric,

I think the 4'-1" is showing the line length from end to end, but the curve is showing the overall package size in x and y directions. If it were a 3 dimensional curve you would see the z value as well.

Hi eric, Michael T has explained it well!

Just in case here is a visual to additionally clarify it - the dimensions being displayed for your squiggly curve are the width and height of its bounding box, shown here selected:

But for lines the length of the line is shown and not its bounding box - you'll see the dimension labeled as "Size" for the bounding box readout, but instead the label in front of the dimensions will read "Length" when a line is selected.

Thanks Michael and Michael ...

Yes, I see ... I was originally seeing the bounding box in my mind as parallel to the longest points apart rather than x and y

but I readily see my error/misconception.

cheers,
eric
