Hi...

I got a step file from customer and I need to know the length of the object.
If the file created in MoI, I can see the length of rail of sweep.
But this file come from step, so I dont have the sketch for rail.

Hi Anis,

I was able to create a centerline through copied circles at the surface edges and extend them together. I then established the bend radii by creating three point circles at the outside and inside bend radii edges. The two bends at the end are 60mm and the ones in the middle are 30mm, from my calculations. I then used a script I got from Michael G. to extract the overall length of the tube. The attached file has the centerline geometry and the text shows the overall length.

Hope this helps.

Hi Anis, for tasks like this you have to undertake some "reverse engineering" type processes as Michael T described above.

Since you don't have the original rail, you need to create a replica of it before you have something that has a measurable length.

Hi again Anis,

The script I spoke of was the total length of the joined center line geometry, not the tube geometry itself. Just wanted to clarify.
