Live trim/extend

Hi,

Just an Idea, it would be great to have a function that would extend or shrink a line following the cursor position.
The user would select a line near it's end (a bit like blend) and move the mouse.

If you go near other objects it could snap.

Hi Marc,

If you turn on the control points for that line you can do what your saying and it will snap to other objects, unless you're describing something different ?

Cheers

Hi Danny,

It could simplify certain tasks.

It could also work with curves, using the control points alter the profile of the arcs.
It would resemble to arc/continue or extend without having to specify a fence.

Often curves and polylines are in a non-orthographic position in space and it's difficult to preserve the point's planar alignment while modifying them.

Hi Marc, that is something I want to add in. Currently Extend is pretty basic and it could use some attention in the future.

I've added that to the wiki wishlist to track it.

Hi Marc,

I knew you might of been asking for something else but I thought, just in case....and yes I use this option in another cad package when doing 2d concepts it is handy and quick.

Nice request.

Cheers

When exploring designs it could be quite useful, for example when tweaking curves prior to a blend.

the intersection function don't exist also with the Transform/Scale function... but with the "helpers line" that make the trick ;)
(exist with the Rotation function)

SketchBook designer has some interesting curve editing features.
I especially like the combine curves as seen in the video at 1:10,

http://www.youtube.com/user/SketchBookPro#p/search/0/AVr9wBFf3OY

A kind of blend with adjustable trimming widgets.

Something along these lines in moi would be cool!
