Hey all, has anyone used MOI on an intel mac? Sorry if this has been brought before. I am in the process of revamping my hardware and I'm leaning towards an intel imac.

Thanks.

I've heard that people have used it by booting to Windows using Boot Camp. So it will certainly work on that machine by that method.

But it doesn't currently work by using emulation / virtual machine type things trying to run it directly inside of OSX without booting the machine to Windows. This is because those virtual machine systems don't work for 3D video hardware right now, which MoI needs to use. However, it sounds like the next version of Parallels is supposed to support this, so maybe this will be improving in the future as well.

But it is certainly a safe purchase because using Boot Camp you have to option to just boot it to Windows as if it was a normal Intel Windows machine.

Thanks Michael.

Yeah some of the imacs are preloaded with the "Parallel" which would let you switch to windows without shuting down first, as with bootcamp.
I guess I really needed to know if the graphics card on the imac had any problems with Moi?

hey

I used MOI on my MacBookPro under windows using boot camp
and it was working well.

I use various 3D modeling and rendering engines on my mac, some under os X
some under windows.

Not that I've heard of, they should be fine with bootcamp.

Looking at the tech specs here: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html, they have pretty standard video on all of them, nothing weird that would cause problems.

The ones that have dedicated ATI or NVidia graphics cards will probably be a bit zippier than the baseline model. The lowest price one has integrated Intel graphics, which will work fine but isn't quite as powerful as the dedicated graphics card ones. However you probably won't really notice unless you do some pretty complex stuff. But that wouldn't be a bad upgrade to guarantee that you've got solid graphics.

@Michael, thanks for looking that up. Great info!
@F.ip2, Mind if ask what you are running on the PC side? I'm more of a hobbiest running: Rhino, Moi [PC], Zbrush, Hex2,Carrara, Amapi [PC&MAC]. Do you use any these apps on the intel mac? If so, notice any difference from just the PC version?
