Hi Pilou, also one other note - the reason why Join does not try to automatically change your curve structure is that is can be bad in many circumstances to do that, because it means you would get different behavior (like different number of pieces, etc...) when then doing a Separate later on to try and do some work on individual pieces again.

It's nice for Join to remain symmetrical with Separate. That's why it will be generally set up to use some other commands to alter a curve (to simplify it, reconstruct it, fuse segments together, stuff like that) rather than Join.

Yeah for rendering purposes you should probably be all set with the boolean solution, I believe it will save you some extra steps instead of attempting to build it with sweep and then planing off pieces after that.

Let me know if you get stuck when trying to use that technique in actual practice.
