Organic modeling using brushes

I'm very impressed with the developments and would like to offer some suggestion in hoping to influence the direction it goes in.

So my ideal program would be a cross between Artcam and Zbrush.

I find it a must for creative organic modeling to have a lot of alpha brushes and stenciling. I would be happy to pay $2500 just for a modeling program that has the brush options (only for modeling shapes not the bitmap coloring stuff) like Zbrush has but with the advantages of vector lines to apply cross sections and extrude and real world ordinance.

I've paid allot more just for Artcam which is lacking in the brush deportment and true 3d world objects.
Now if there was a program that had some of the useful abilities that Zbrush has combined with a true CAD/CAM program (even if it would only export to create the toolpaths in another program) I and allot of others would buy it in a heart beat!

Introduce my self here, I own a guitar company and am involved with the development of Mach 3 (CNC controlling program).

I currently fluent with Rhino and Artcam, I'm learning zbrush at the moment.

I found this program from a discussion with Frenchy Pilou.

Maybe you could contact Art over at Mach 3 and add toolpath support to MOI!

Thanks zealous

Have you looked at Silo? Not a nurbs program, and maybe not with all that you want, but cheap and the Silo2 beta has comprehensive brush modelling.

I believe than the next Amapi will have all that you want : Poly (organic) (maybe brush:) / Nurbs (precision) + and UI like Hexagon
+ Technical text possibilities (measures cotations, ...etc)
Because hexagon team come back home to Amapi Dev familly :)
Release soon :)

Hi Zealous, thanks for your interest in MoI!

It will probably take quite a long while before I'll be able to experiment in this area.

MoI is just not focused at this point in time on that style of modeling (I mean highly organic, lots of little bumps and ripples, ... ) . Definitely ZBrush as you are using, and also Silo as previously mentioned are good tools to explore for this style of modeling.

It's a bit difficult to merge structured, accurate type drawing tools along with free-form brush tools. Right now MoI is weighted more on the accurate side.

But thank you for your feedback! I will try to think about different possibilities along these lines in the future, but I just wanted to warn you that it probably won't happen anytime soon.

- Michael

GOOD...!!! Let's keep it this way! There are many programs for character modeling and sculpture as you already mentioned... On the other hand, not so many like MoI and none as simple as MoI.

Amen to that! If I see one more tutorial about modelling a troll's head / naked pixie, I 'll barf...~:?)

Now that sounds like a good subject for brush-based modeling :) ... I agree Moi should maintain it's focus on being a precision CAD-related tool.

I second to this opinion. With the addition of some more tools must focus in the Cad area.

Which the pixie or the barf? If it's the latter I'm worried ~:?)

Hi, I really like pixies (naked or not) and trolls but like other users I would prefer to see MoI concentrate on other areas than organinc modeling...

ZBrush has already been mentioned, together with Silo 2.
I will add to the list :
Mudbox
Blender (version 2.43 will be released within a few weeks and will have sculpting tools)
Modo (not yet but there's a video "sneak preview" on their forum of the sculpting tools they're working on)

This is OT, question to Pilou:
I am glad to hear that Ampia development is still suposedly going on.
Do the devs have a new website from which to get information?
thanks

I'm not Frenchy but I can answer to that one... ;-)

Amapi now belongs to E-Frontier so the official site is at www.e-frontier.com
But the most active community (formerly Eovia.net) can be found at www.polyloop.net

And to stay on topic, I can say that Amapi (Pro) imports and exports 3DM files so it can exchange nicely with MoI. I currently use it to import Illustrator files and convert them to 3DM for MoI

Of course i have the previous information by Polyloop :)
As Polyloop is the personal site of Thomas, one guy of the Amapi team (who is now at E Frontier) :)
