Zoom

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a zoom key/script that would behave like the mouse wheel, being relative to the position of the pointer?

I use a tablet and the keyboard to zoom instead of the wheel.

Also, I've searched for a 'zoom previous' command or script and can't seem to find it.

Thanks,

Marc

There are some alternate ways to zoom with the pointer + a modifier key which work relative to the pointer location like that.

Try one of these methods:

Alt + Ctrl + Left drag up and down = Zoom
Ctrl + Right drag up and down = Zoom
Alt + Right drag up and down = Zoom

Currently the previous views are not saved in a stack, so there isn't any way to script a zoom previous command. I've added it to the wishlist.

The way it is set up right now, you use the "Reset" button to step back out to a full view after you have zoomed in somewhere.

Thanks Michael,

I didn't know about those alternate zooming methods, sounds good!
These zooming techniques have the viewport as a limitation, for example if you want to zoom in on the top left corner, your zooming range is limited to the border.

But MoI Zooms to the Pointer position, so you can go to corner, zoom out, then move pointer and zoom in as a way to move across the screen.

Hi Marc,

In actual use this should not really be much of an issue, because you should generally have a kind of reflexive use of navigation to be able to bring a specific point of interest closer to the center of the viewport where you can actually see all of it rather than possibly having some of it clipped off the screen as it can be if it is very nearby the border like you describe.

So for instance you would either pan or zoom out first to bring that point of interest at least somewhat closer to the middle of the screen first, before zooming in on it.

But I've also added in an additional method for scripting for the next beta, so that it will be possible to set up some shortcut keys that give the exact same behavior as the mouse scroll wheel, so that a press of the key does the same thing as spinning the wheel one notch in one direction, including having the zoom based around the pointer position.

It kind of feels a bit awkward to me, but it will be another possible option to set up in the next beta.

Thanks Michael,

The zoom previous feature gets real useful after using a 'zoom to selection' without getting back to the extents of the drawing in large projects.
