Hi Michael

I have been making a Morris Minor (see attached pic of wip). I am basically making half then will mirror it would be good to have a visual mirror so I could see how the whole car looks without having to mirror the geometry then delete all the time.

Do you think this is possible?

Jamie

Hi Jamie, I've added that to the wishlist here: http://moi3d.com/wiki/Wishlist .

I definitely want to add some functions for easier symmetry in the future.

Do you think it is important to have a function like this be a kind of display image only instead of actually having a mirrored objects automatically generated and refreshed all the time?

HI Michael

I guess it doesnt really matter if its real geometry or image. I assume that the mirrored image will need less memory and be faster? it would be good to easily toggle on off to check the model. Also that the mirror stays out of the way of selections.

Jamie

p.s Is it right you are due a new baby soon? if so congratulations.

A real baby or a new beta version? That is not exactly the same :)

Hi Jamie,

Yeah that could be an advantage to a display-only type mechanism.

But then a disadvantage is that you would still need to do an actual mirror before your object was actually finished. So for example if you wanted to do some tweaks and export each tweak to a mesh file you would need to do "tweak, mirror, export" repeatedly instead of just "tweak, export"...

> Also that the mirror stays out of the way of selections.

It could be possible to set something up similar to that even if it was "real objects" being mirrored - if there was a special symmetry mode that you turned on or off there could maybe be some special logic that the mirrored objects behaved similar to locked objects until you exited the symmetry mode.

One thing that is somewhat complex with a symmetry feature is that it would probably be good for some particular commands to make a single longer object when symmetry was on rather than it only being a strictly mirrored half.

For example with a curve it is easier to make a symmetrical curve be completely smooth if the curve is created as one single long curve rather than as a half piece that is then mirrored.

Thanks very much! Yes, actually he is here now and doing really well, his name is Zane.

Hi Michael

Congatulations and welcome to Zane. I have 2 small boys myself, its great watching them grow. Im surprised no one noticed a drop off in your attention. I guess we can expect a few bugs to creep in now with your lack of sleep ;-)

Enough joking, congratulations again (maybe the thread should be renamed to give Zane a proper welcome)

Regards

Jamie
