Another question, possible to select a surface and convert it to a curve ?

For example I draw a 2d circle, do a planar, erase the curve, I only have a surface.
I know I can click on that surface and shift select every curve, but how to do it automatically?

Menu Edit / Separate? then kill surface, curve is living ;)
Use the browser for selection all that you want ;)

Another option is to select the surface, then the curves you need and just copy paste them. That's easier if you want to keep the object and need the edge for something else.

Yeah but pitrak when I got 1 surface with more than 50 curves its boring to select everything :P

Hi DesuDeus, one note on this part:

You can use the properties panel in MoI v2 to quickly identify if you have a closed curve or an open curve. If the selected curve is closed, it will say "Closed crv" here:



If the selected curve is not closed, it will just say plain "Curve" and not "Closed crv" there.

If you select multiple curves, like say 10 of them, then if they are all closed it would say "10 Closed crvs" there, but if they are a mixture of some open and some closed, it will say "10 objects" there.

So looking at that type readout gives you a way to know if you've got any open curves.

Hi DesuDeus, also in addition to that other "CloseCurve" plugin I've attached a new one here called "MarkOpenCurveStart" which may be useful.

What it will do is go through the selected curves and place a point object at the start point of any open curve in that selection, so that point will be marked and you can see where it is.

This new one will only work in MoI v2, to install it download and unzip the attached file and copy the 2 included files to the \commands subfolder instead of the v2 beta's main installation folder.

Then set up a shortcut key with MarkOpenCurveStart as the command, and then select curve and hit that key to trigger it.


That other "CloseCurve" function can possibly introduce a very tiny line segment into your outline which is something to kind of look out for, since that can then lead to teeny-tiny surfaces later on which tend to be kind of nice to avoid if possible.

Just a quick note - in MoI you don't need to hold down the shift key to do multiple selection.

It doesn't hurt anything to hold down shift, but it's not necessary, you can just click on the edges you want to select without shift and it will work the same.

There's a shortcut - just select one edge, then do Ctrl+A (or on the side pane click on Select / Sel all).

When you have an edge selected, then you can do a "select all" to select all the other edges on that one object.

Invert works in the same way, if an edge is selected then it will target edges.

Also if you select a single edge, it will also set window selection (where you click in an empty area and drag to make a selection box) to target edges as well.
